over 25 years in the museum profession and that is where she first began to teach children in summer art classes. Five years ago, Evelyn moved to Marfa, Texas. One of the first art teachers in our SITES program, she has taught many of the grade levels. Evelyn also is active as a programmer with the Marfa Theatre – Youth Initiate Program through the Gifted and Talented Program at the Marfa Schools, after school programs and summer projects.
Reflecting on her involvement with the school children, Evelyn says:
“I believe working with youth is the most positive and creative way for me to spend my energy. Motivating students and exposing young people to art materials and applications is very rewarding to me. Kids are naturally creative and a lot of fun and I receive so much back from my experiences with them. The SITES program has enabled me to explore my on creative self and has worked into becoming my form of artistic expression.”

with her husband and son in 2006. Jennifer is an artist and has exhibited her films and works on paper in many different venues, most recently the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, and the Marfa Studio of Arts. She also works as a docent for the Judd Foundation.
Jennifer speaks about the program: “I wanted to get involved with the SITES program because I think it is important that all of the children who live in Marfa have some exposure to art. I am excited about the opportunity to help provide Marfa kids with hands-on experience in the plastic arts as well as exposure to the world-class art installations that are right here in their own backyards. My son will be attending the Marfa Elementary school in two years and I am committed to doing my part to make the school the best that it can be”. |
